Terms

These terms are an agreement between you and Surya Kiran, a sole proprietor based in India trading as JotMic (“we”, “us”). They cover the JotMic application, this website, and the hosted transcription and text services the app uses. By downloading or using JotMic you accept them. If you do not, do not use it.

What JotMic is

JotMic is a dictation application for macOS. It transcribes speech to text, either with a model running on your own Mac or with our hosted service, and can tidy or rewrite that text for you. Some features require an active paid plan and an internet connection. We describe what the software does on this site, but nothing here is a promise that it will suit a particular purpose of yours.

Your account

You need an account to use JotMic, including on the free tier. You sign in with a one-time code sent to your email address, so keep access to that address secure — anyone who can read your email can sign in as you. An account is for one person. You are responsible for what happens under yours.

You must be at least 16 years old, or the age of digital consent where you live, whichever is higher.

The free allowance

A new account gets 5,000 words of dictation, once. There is no time limit — they do not expire. They also do not reset, and they require no card.

Both engines draw on it. Words dictated on your own Mac count against the allowance exactly as hosted dictation does. When the words are gone, dictation stops on both until you buy a plan. We say this here because it differs from what some other dictation apps offer, and we would rather you knew before you installed it than after.

Transcribing recordings and video files is not part of the free allowance. It is on the paid plans only. Everything else — both engines, cleanup, voice commands, custom modes, every language — is included while the allowance lasts.

Plans and payment

Current prices are shown on the pricing page. Two things are sold:

• Pro — billed monthly or yearly, renewing automatically at the end of each period until you cancel. It includes unlimited dictation on both engines.
• Lifetime — a single payment covering the same features, with no renewal.

Dodo Payments is the merchant of record for every purchase. They take your payment, issue your invoice, handle tax and are the seller on your statement. Their terms apply to the transaction alongside these.

Prices may change. A change never affects a period you have already paid for, and we will tell you before a renewal at a new price. Taxes are added where required by law.

Cancelling, and what happens after

You can cancel at any time from your account page. Cancelling stops the next renewal and keeps everything working until the end of the period you have already paid for.

After that period ends, your account returns to the free allowance. If you have already used your 5,000 words — which after a paid period is all but certain — dictation stops working, on the hosted engine and on the on-device one alike. The app remains installed and your local history and settings are untouched and are still yours, but it will not transcribe again until you resubscribe. We would rather state this bluntly than have you find out on the day.

What “Lifetime” means

A Lifetime purchase covers the lifetime of the product, not of the purchaser. It means one payment with no renewal, including future versions, for as long as we operate JotMic. If we ever discontinue it, we will give reasonable notice and, where we can, leave the app in a state that keeps working on your own Mac. It is not a guarantee that the hosted service runs forever, because nothing honest could be.

Refunds

Refunds are handled by Dodo Payments as merchant of record, under the refund policy that binds sellers on their platform. To request one, mail surya@jotmic.com from the address on the account. We will put it to them for you and we will not make it difficult — if JotMic does not work for you, we do not want your money.

The free words exist so that you can find out whether the app suits you before paying anything. We would encourage you to use them up first.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• resell, sublicense or redistribute access to JotMic or its hosted services;
• share one account across several people or an organisation;
• use the hosted transcription or text services other than through the JotMic app — including by extracting credentials, automating requests, or building against our endpoints;
• circumvent the free allowance or any usage limit, including by patching the app or creating accounts to obtain repeated allowances;
• use JotMic to process material you have no right to process, or for anything unlawful;
• reverse-engineer the application except where that right cannot lawfully be excluded.

Accounts doing any of the above may be suspended or closed. Where the breach is inadvertent we will tell you first.

Your content

What you dictate is yours. You keep every right in your recordings, your transcripts and anything JotMic produces from them. We claim no licence over them. We do not use them to train models, ours or anyone else’s, and we do not store them at all — see the privacy policy for exactly what is transmitted and what is kept.

The application, its name and its design remain ours. Your purchase is a licence to use it on the Macs you personally use, not a transfer of ownership.

Accuracy

Speech recognition makes mistakes. JotMic will sometimes mis-transcribe what you said, and the text-cleanup feature will sometimes change wording in ways you did not intend. Read what it wrote before you send it. Do not rely on it unchecked for anything where an error carries consequence — medical, legal, financial or safety-critical work included. We give no guarantee of accuracy and accept no liability for the content of a transcript.

Availability

Hosted transcription depends on a third-party speech provider, on our hosting provider and on your network, and will sometimes be slow or unavailable. We do not offer an uptime guarantee. We may change, suspend or withdraw features, and we may take the service down for maintenance. Where a change materially reduces what a paid plan gives you, we will tell you.

Warranty

JotMic is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or accurate. Some jurisdictions do not allow these exclusions, in which case they apply to you only to the extent permitted by law, and nothing here removes a statutory consumer right you have.

Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, nor for lost profits, lost data, or business interruption, arising from your use of or inability to use JotMic — whether or not we were told such damage was possible.

Our total liability to you for any claim relating to JotMic is limited to the amount you actually paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose. If you have paid us nothing, our liability is limited to supplying the service again or refunding nothing, as applicable. Nothing in these terms limits liability for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.

Suspension and termination

You may stop using JotMic at any time; deleting the app and asking us to delete your account ends this agreement. We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms, that is being used to attack or abuse the service, or where we are required to by law. Where we close a paid account other than for breach, we will refund the unused part of the period you paid for.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top of the page changes when we do. If a change materially affects your rights or what you are paying for, we will tell you before it takes effect, and continuing to use JotMic after that means you accept it. If you do not, cancel — and if the change lands mid-period, ask us and we will refund the remainder.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts of Bengaluru, Karnataka have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, this does not deprive you of the protection of any mandatory law of your own country, nor of the right to bring proceedings there where that law gives it to you.

If any provision of these terms is held unenforceable, the rest continues in force.
