What leaves your Mac, what does not, and what we keep.
Last updated 1 September 2026
The short version
- JotMic never captures your screen. It ships no screen-recording and no camera entitlement, so it cannot, not merely does not.
- On the free tier, no audio leaves your Mac. Transcription runs on-device.
- What you dictate is stored only on your Mac, in a local database you can clear or switch off.
- We never see your card. Payments are handled by our payment provider.
Your account
Signing in stores your email address. There is no password — you sign in with a code sent to that address. We use it to identify your plan and to contact you about your purchase.
Audio
On the free tier, speech is transcribed by a model running on your own Mac. The audio does not reach us and does not reach anyone else.
On Pro and Lifetime, each recording is sent to our transcription service, which forwards it to our speech-recognition provider and returns text. We do not store the audio and we do not store the transcript. We do not log what you said.
Your vocabulary list
If you add words in the Vocabulary screen, that list is stored on your Mac — and on the Pro and Lifetime tiers it is sent with each transcription request, because that is how it improves the result. Do not put anything secret in it.
What you dictate
JotMic keeps a history of what you dictated on your own Mac, in a local database. It is never uploaded, it is never sent to us, and you can turn it off or delete it from the Activity screen.
Usage
For paid accounts we record how many seconds of audio were transcribed and how many requests were made, per month. That is what the metering is for. It is a count, not a record of content.
Payments
Payments are processed by our payment provider, which acts as merchant of record. Card details go to them and are never sent to us or stored by us. We keep the identifiers they give us — a customer id, a subscription id, its status and renewal date — so that your plan can be applied to your account.
Updates
The app checks for a new version on launch and every six hours. That request reveals your IP address and the version you are running, as any download does.
What we do not collect
- Screenshots, screen contents, or anything about what is on your display.
- Keystrokes. The app watches for one modifier key and reads nothing else you type.
- Analytics, telemetry, or behavioural tracking inside the app.
- Your contacts, files, location, or camera.
Deleting your data
Mail hello@jotmic.com from the address you signed in with and your account and its usage records will be deleted. Anything stored on your own Mac is removed by deleting the app and its data folder.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects what is sent or stored, the app will say so before the change takes effect.
